Chinese construction machinery giant XCMG Machinery has been recognised for its sustainability efforts, with three of its factories named in China’s 2024 National Green Factory List. The designation, awarded by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, highlights the company’s commitment to green manufacturing, environmental responsibility, and innovation in clean energy technologies.
The recognised facilities specialise in road machinery, firefighting equipment, and automotive products. Each has demonstrated significant progress in reducing carbon emissions, improving resource efficiency, and integrating environmentally friendly production practices.
Advancing clean energy in manufacturing
XCMG has taken major steps to incorporate clean energy across its operations. A key initiative in 2024 was the launch of an 8.91 MW photovoltaic power project at the company’s firefighting equipment factory, now supplying nearly 20% of the site’s electricity needs. The move has cut carbon emissions and lowered operational costs, reinforcing XCMG’s sustainability objectives.
Meanwhile, the Road Machinery division has focused on boosting efficiency through automation and digital management. By adopting advanced production technologies and building a green supply chain, the factory has reduced waste, improved recycling processes, and enhanced production efficiency. These measures set new benchmarks for sustainable manufacturing within the industry.
Green innovation and electric technology
XCMG is also leading the way in green product development, with a strong emphasis on electric and low-emission technologies. One of its standout innovations is the XD140EP, a fully electric, dual-drive, dual-vibration light-duty roller. Manufactured at the eco-friendly Road Machinery facility, the XD140EP has already been deployed on road construction projects in Hangzhou, providing a quieter, more efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional rollers.
Beyond road machinery, XCMG has expanded its portfolio of sustainable construction equipment, including electric-powered aerial work platforms. These efforts align with China’s broader push for green industrial development and have earned the company recognition across the sector.
Optimising energy use and waste management
Alongside product innovation, XCMG is investing in energy efficiency across its facilities. A detailed energy audit at the firefighting equipment factory led to the introduction of targeted energy-saving measures, significantly improving power consumption management.
The company is also pioneering the use of intelligent, automated production systems, integrating 5G technology, autonomous assembly lines, and advanced welding systems. These measures ensure precision manufacturing while optimising energy use.
In addition to energy efficiency, XCMG has strengthened its waste management initiatives. The firefighting division has implemented advanced air pollution control systems, wastewater treatment plants, and solid waste recycling processes. These systems ensure compliance with environmental regulations and support the company’s transition to a circular economy.
Sustainability at the core of XCMG’s strategy
XCMG’s inclusion in the National Green Factory List underscores its leadership in sustainable manufacturing. By prioritising clean energy, eco-friendly product innovation, and efficient resource management, the company continues to set new standards for green development within the construction machinery sector.
