Trinasolar, in partnership with key industry players, has unveiled a groundbreaking agrivoltaics and aquavoltaic project, showcasing the innovative fusion of solar power, aquaculture, and energy storage. The 150MW installation, completed in two phases, combines agriculture beneath photovoltaic panels with floating solar installations integrated into aquaculture. The project, which uses Trinasolar’s high-efficiency Vertex series modules, represents a significant leap in renewable energy integration and sustainable land-use practices.

Located in a former coal mining subsidence area, the project is set in an environmentally challenged region, using advanced strategies to rehabilitate the land while promoting green energy and sustainable agriculture. Trinasolar’s Vertex Series solar panels are pivotal to reducing the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), making the project a cost-effective solution for stakeholders and a model for future renewable energy projects.

The Phase II installation features Trina Storage’s Elementa energy storage system, a 27MW/54MWh liquid-cooled battery energy storage system (BESS). Elementa, which includes Trina’s proprietary battery cells, battery management systems (BMS), and fire safety features, is designed for optimal efficiency and flexible integration into renewable energy projects. The modular design of Elementa enables scalable and cost-effective energy storage, enhancing the overall performance of the solar installation.

By employing the integrated fishery-photovoltaic-energy storage model, the project is designed to address several energy challenges, such as photovoltaic power curtailment. The energy storage system’s peak shaving and valley filling capabilities help mitigate curtailment, enhancing overall station utilization. It also provides grid services like frequency regulation, supporting grid stability while maximizing renewable energy use.

Trinasolar’s commitment to advancing intelligent power distribution is evident in the design of the system, which optimises solar power generation and energy storage. The intelligent integration allows for efficient distribution, ensuring the renewable energy system meets demand and provides a stable power supply for critical loads.

Additionally, the project exemplifies Trinasolar’s commitment to the long-term reliability and success of energy storage systems. With support from its Global Engineering and Technology Service Center, Trina Storage ensures seamless integration, maintenance, and operational safety, providing customers with comprehensive lifecycle services for energy storage solutions.

The completion of this project marks a significant milestone for Trinasolar in the development of solar-storage integration. With successful projects across the globe, the company continues to innovate and lead the charge in building more efficient, stable, and sustainable energy ecosystems.

As the global leader in smart solar and storage solutions, Trinasolar’s future efforts will focus on optimizing systems to deliver greater flexibility, improved performance, and long-term sustainability for renewable energy projects worldwide.
