Students from Coleg Cambria participated in a community clean-up event to mark World Clean-Up Day, teaming up with the college’s Estates team to collect litter across the Deeside and Deeside Sixth Form sites. The group, consisting of learners Zoe Boothman, Sarah Astbury, Gracie Gee, and Andrei-Alexandru Bordea, gathered over 12kg of waste during their efforts.

Supported by the waste management company Veolia, which operates in the UK, including sites in Wirral and Ellesmere Port, the students were equipped with litter pickers, refuse sacks, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Sophie Hughes-Saunier, the college’s Sustainability and Environmental Specialist, expressed gratitude to Veolia for their generous donation and assistance during the clean-up.

“In just 30 minutes, the team managed to collect 9kg of non-recyclable waste and 3kg of recyclable materials,” said Hughes-Saunier. “Thanks to everyone who got involved and contributed to this important initiative.”

The collaborative effort not only helped to improve the cleanliness of the college’s environment but also raised awareness of sustainability issues among the students and staff. Events like World Clean-Up Day encourage individuals and communities to take action towards environmental responsibility, highlighting the importance of keeping public spaces clean.

By engaging in such activities, Coleg Cambria demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness, inspiring students to become active participants in caring for their surroundings.
