Slicker Recycling, a leading UK oil and waste recycling company, has officially received the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade at a special ceremony held at its Worcestershire headquarters. The company, which processes over 75 million litres of used lubricating oil each year, was recognised for its outstanding growth in international trade and its contribution to reducing businesses’ carbon footprints.

The award was initially announced in May 2024, and the formal presentation took place at the company’s headquarters in Stourport-on-Severn. The event was hosted by executive chairman Mark Olpin and attended by the Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Mrs Beatrice Grant, who presented the award on behalf of His Majesty the King. More than 80 colleagues and guests, including Stourport-on-Severn’s Mayor, Councillor John Thomas, were present to celebrate the achievement.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mark Olpin described the award as one of the company’s proudest moments. “When we were told back in May that we had been selected for the prestigious King’s Award, it was without a doubt one of the proudest moments in the company’s history,” Olpin said. “This recognition from His Majesty the King is a testament to the dedication of our first-class team, whose professionalism has driven our success.”

He continued: “Today’s celebration is a momentous occasion for us to come together with colleagues and distinguished guests to mark this achievement. On behalf of everyone at Slicker Recycling, I want to extend a huge thank you to all those who have supported us. Their kind messages have reaffirmed just how far we’ve come, and how we continue to lead the industry with a sustainable business model that contributes to the circular economy.”

Slicker Recycling’s success is underpinned by significant growth, both domestically and internationally. Since 2021, the company has made substantial investments and acquisitions, which have helped expand its client base and reinforce its position as a leader in oil recycling. The firm currently employs 208 staff across the UK and has played a crucial role in helping businesses reduce their environmental impact.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Mrs Beatrice Grant, praised the company for its remarkable achievements. “Slicker Recycling is one of Worcestershire’s most inspiring businesses,” she said. “Not only are they a growing national employer, but they are also industry leaders in waste recycling. The King’s Award recognises their excellence in international trade, and I was delighted to present this award on behalf of His Majesty. I congratulate them once again for their success.”

Founded in 1965, Slicker Recycling has built a strong reputation in the UK and beyond. The King’s Award is considered one of the most prestigious honours for UK businesses, with only 7,000 companies having achieved this status since the award’s inception during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
