Sportswear giant PUMA has been recognised in the “World’s Most Sustainable Companies” ranking by TIME magazine and Statista. The accolade, which evaluates companies based on their environmental performance, transparency, and third-party assessments, highlights PUMA’s commitment to sustainability in the apparel sector.

PUMA achieved a notable score of 73.02 out of 100, the highest in the Apparel, Footwear & Sporting Goods sector. This recognition underscores the effectiveness of PUMA’s “FOREVER. BETTER.” sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce the company’s environmental footprint and enhance transparency across its operations.

Anne-Laure Descours, Chief Sourcing Officer at PUMA, expressed pride in the company’s achievement. “Being ranked among the most sustainable companies by such a prestigious publication is a great recognition of our FOREVER. BETTER. sustainability strategy,” Descours said. “We will take this as an incentive to work even harder and continue to reduce our environmental footprint.”

PUMA’s sustainability strategy encompasses ten ambitious targets, including climate action, circularity, and human rights. The company has already surpassed two of these goals ahead of schedule. Notably, PUMA eliminated plastic carrier bags from its stores and has explored biodegradable alternatives. Additionally, the company has trained over 220,000 factory workers on women’s empowerment and completed a comprehensive human rights risk assessment for its suppliers.

In early 2024, PUMA achieved its science-based CO2 reduction target seven years ahead of schedule. The company has set a new, more ambitious climate target aligned with the scientific consensus to limit global temperature rise to below 1.5 degrees Celsius. This includes initiatives such as integrating renewable electricity at core suppliers, opting for low-carbon shipping tariffs, and investing in electric vehicles.

PUMA has also focused on sustainable materials. Last year, eight out of ten PUMA products were made using recycled or certified materials, including recycled polyester. The company continues to invest in renewable energy, having recently inaugurated a large photovoltaic installation at its global headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. This installation is expected to supply a fifth of the building’s electricity needs.

PUMA’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its own operations. The company is actively working with suppliers to enhance their sustainability practices and reduce the overall carbon footprint of its supply chain.
