A breakthrough in solar technology was unveiled at the 18th Italian International Renewable Energy Exhibition (KEY ENERGY) on 5 March 2025, as Polyshine Solar introduced its lightweight flexible photovoltaic modules. The innovation, designed to accelerate rooftop solar adoption, offers a combination of ultra-light engineering, easy installation, and a 25-year performance guarantee.

The new solar panels, which weigh 70% less than traditional models, aim to make solar energy more accessible to households and businesses worldwide.

A lighter, more adaptable solution

Polyshine Solar’s patented polymer encapsulation technology has allowed the company to significantly reduce panel weight to just 2.92 kg per square metre. This makes installation feasible on curved or low-load-bearing rooftops, removing the need for expensive structural reinforcements. With a bending radius of 0.5 metres, the modules can be fitted onto previously unsuitable surfaces, expanding the possibilities for solar power generation.

Simplified installation

A key advantage of the new design is its ease of installation. Unlike conventional solar panels that require heavy mounting frames and drilling, Polyshine Solar’s modules feature peel-and-stick adhesion or strap-fastening options. This allows for rapid deployment, enabling solar systems to be set up within minutes.

The company describes the innovation as a “stick-and-generate” system, which it believes could democratise solar energy by making it accessible to a wider range of consumers, including those in urban environments with limited installation options.

Certified for global markets

The flexible solar panels have been certified by TÜV, CQC, CE, and other international authorities, ensuring compliance with global safety and performance standards. This positions Polyshine Solar to expand across multiple markets as countries accelerate their transition towards renewable energy.

Product applications

Polyshine Solar has developed two main product lines to meet different energy needs:

  • Commercial & Industrial Rooftop Series – Designed for large-scale installations, these panels can be fitted onto curved or low-load roofs without the need for additional structural support.
  • Balcony Solar Solutions – Targeting urban areas, this system features integrated grommets and Velcro straps, allowing for DIY installation on balconies, walls, or other available surfaces.

By transforming underutilised spaces into micro power plants, the company aims to expand the reach of solar energy beyond traditional rooftop setups.

A shift in renewable energy adoption

Polyshine Solar’s innovation represents more than just a new product—it marks a shift in how solar power is deployed. The lightweight and flexible design removes barriers to installation, making it easier for homes and businesses to adopt renewable energy solutions.

At the exhibition, the company reportedly received over 2,000 inquiries, highlighting strong market interest. Looking ahead, Polyshine Solar plans a global rollout of its new technology, aiming to convert rooftops and urban spaces into clean energy assets.

By offering a simpler, more accessible solar solution, Polyshine Solar is positioning itself at the forefront of the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
