PT Mowilex Indonesia, a leading manufacturer in Indonesia, has achieved its sixth consecutive CarbonNeutral® certification from Climate Impact Partners. This milestone is a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, reducing its carbon footprint, and supporting national emission reduction targets.
Mowilex, which made history as Indonesia’s first certified carbon-neutral manufacturer in 2019, continues to set an example for the manufacturing sector. The company has consistently invested in green technologies and carbon offsets to neutralise its emissions. These efforts contribute not only to Mowilex’s environmental goals but also to Indonesia’s ambitious target of reducing emissions by 31.89% by 2030 as part of its Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
This latest certification saw Mowilex supporting the Lingasugur Wind Power Project in India. This clean energy initiative is part of a broader portfolio that aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the project contributes to SDGs on Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Goal 9), and Climate Action (Goal 13).
The company’s sustainability efforts extend beyond carbon offsets. Mowilex has implemented significant measures at its Cikande plant, including the installation of solar panels. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the plant’s dependence on non-renewable electricity sourced from the grid. Moreover, the company has made strides in improving energy efficiency by transitioning from fuel-based equipment to electric alternatives. As a result, Mowilex reported a remarkable 98% reduction in emissions from stationary sources compared to 2023.
Further supporting the transition to renewable energy, Mowilex collaborated with ACT Commodities, a CDP gold-accredited organisation, to secure Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). These certificates help the company to track and validate the use of renewable energy across its operations.
Mowilex’s CEO, Niko Safavi, expressed pride in the company’s environmental achievements. “We are honoured to receive our sixth consecutive CarbonNeutral® certification. Our focus on ethical and environmental responsibility demonstrates that manufacturers can make a lasting positive impact on the planet,” he said. Safavi also highlighted the company’s wider role in supporting Indonesia’s emission reduction efforts, as the industrial sector was responsible for three-quarters of the country’s emissions in 2019.
Beyond reducing its carbon footprint, Mowilex has been actively involved in local community development projects. In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the company planted 50,000 mangrove trees, further contributing to Indonesia’s environmental preservation efforts. The company’s commitment to sustainability is also reflected in its annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report and its third consecutive award as one of Indonesia’s Best Managed Companies by Deloitte.
Additionally, Mowilex has launched a new line of Mowilex Recycled Paints, which contain up to 40% premium recycled paint in each 2.5-litre pail. The initiative aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to drive innovation and support circular economy practices.
Through its comprehensive sustainability initiatives, Mowilex is setting an example for other manufacturers in Indonesia and beyond, showing that responsible business practices can have a positive and lasting impact on both the environment and local communities.
