MediSun Energy and MOAJ Holding have announced the creation of a new joint venture, MediSun Arabia, which aims to drive innovative energy solutions and address water scarcity in Saudi Arabia. The partnership will see MOAJ Holding invest USD 30 million to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and co-develop a Saudi Brine Management Program with MediSun Energy.
As part of the agreement, the new manufacturing hub will focus on producing MediSun’s WEGen stacks—key components for renewable energy projects throughout the region. The facility will enhance Saudi Arabia’s industrial capacity and contribute to its renewable energy goals, as outlined in the country’s Vision 2030 initiative. This ambitious plan aims to diversify the nation’s economy by reducing its reliance on oil and advancing sustainable development.
In addition to boosting local production, MOAJ Holding will serve as the exclusive distributor of MediSun Energy’s technologies across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), expanding the company’s footprint in the Middle East. MediSun’s WEGen technology uses Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) to efficiently convert saltwater into electricity, providing a vital renewable energy source for the region.
A key part of the joint venture is the Saudi Brine Management Program, which will be co-developed by MediSun Arabia in partnership with a leading academic institution renowned for desalination research. The programme will address the environmental challenges posed by desalination, particularly the issue of brine disposal, and aims to develop advanced treatment technologies. These innovations will be vital in helping Saudi Arabia achieve its sustainability targets, which are also a key aspect of Vision 2030.
Speaking about the partnership, Dusun Kim, CEO of MediSun Energy, said: “This joint venture is a significant milestone for MediSun Energy as we expand our operations in Saudi Arabia. Our WEGen technology will be instrumental in advancing the country’s sustainability targets by generating clean energy and reducing consumption. We look forward to a long-term partnership with MOAJ that will have a meaningful impact on the region’s water and energy challenges.”
HE Mohammed N. Al Jasser, founder of MOAJ Holding, expressed similar enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating: “We are excited to partner with MediSun Energy in this transformative venture. Our shared vision for advancing sustainable energy and water management in Saudi Arabia highlights the importance of this collaboration. MediSun’s WEGen technology, which enhances energy efficiency while producing clean power, is perfectly aligned with the region’s sustainability goals. Together, we are committed to delivering innovative solutions to the wider Middle East market.”
The partnership between MediSun and MOAJ positions both companies as key players in addressing the region’s pressing water and energy issues. By combining renewable energy technology with cutting-edge research on desalination, MediSun Arabia aims to contribute to a more sustainable future for Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, aligning closely with the objectives of Vision 2030.
This joint venture is expected to have a long-lasting impact on both energy generation and water management in the region, further strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a leader in sustainable innovation.
