Lionel Hitchen, a prominent supplier of natural flavours and flavour ingredients, has reaffirmed its dedication to sustainability with the launch of its latest sustainability report and a new dedicated webpage. This marks a significant advancement in the company’s efforts to openly communicate its environmental and social initiatives.

Since its first sustainability report in 2022, developed in collaboration with the University of Southampton Business School, Lionel Hitchen has remained steadfast in its commitment to sustainable practices. The company has now released its third annual report, highlighting continued progress and new developments in its sustainability strategy.

A key element of this strategy is the newly launched sustainability page on Lionel Hitchen’s website. This platform is designed to transparently share information about the company’s ongoing climate projects and sustainability initiatives. The new webpage represents a substantial step towards enhancing communication with stakeholders about Lionel Hitchen’s environmental efforts.

Helen McNair, Technical Director at Lionel Hitchen, who recently addressed the London Flavour Day 2024, emphasised the integration of sustainability into the company’s core values. “Sustainability needed to be part of our language and values in our business. We had to ensure it was embedded and integrated across the whole business,” McNair said. She also highlighted the company’s proactive approach to involving employees in sustainability efforts. “We asked all the teams to contribute ideas, including those for energy reduction. We received 100 ideas for reducing energy within our business, which was fantastic. Consequently, we established our Green Pathway Group,” McNair added.

In July 2024, Lionel Hitchen achieved the EcoVadis Gold Medal, an accolade awarded to the top 5% of companies assessed by EcoVadis in the past year. The EcoVadis rating system evaluates companies based on four key criteria: environment, labour & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Receiving this prestigious medal underscores Lionel Hitchen’s leadership in corporate sustainability and aligns with international standards.

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Lionel Hitchen continues to develop its business model to ensure it aligns with its values and contributes positively to future generations. The company’s efforts reflect a broader trend within the industry towards enhanced environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
