UK-based bio-tech company Clean Food Group has announced a strategic partnership with leading cosmetics manufacturer THG LABS to revolutionise sustainable beauty products. The collaboration will focus on developing a low-impact, high-performance oil derived from food waste, offering an eco-friendly alternative to agriculturally intensive ingredients commonly used in cosmetics. THG LABS, with over 30 years of experience in skincare and haircare innovation, will play a key role in product development and guiding Clean Food Group’s research into sustainable solutions.
The partnership stems from eight years of pioneering research led by Professor Chris Chuck of Clean Food Group. Utilising a unique fermentation technology, Clean Food Group’s platform uses non-GMO yeast strains and bread waste as a food source to create valuable alternatives to traditional oil and fat ingredients. The goal is to deliver bio-equivalent alternatives that align with THG LABS’ ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact across the beauty sector.
Professor Chris Chuck, the Technical Lead at Clean Food Group, expressed excitement about the collaboration, saying, “With THG LABS’ expertise, we look forward to launching a range of science-led, sustainable beauty products.” Kristal Goodman, Head of Product Innovation at THG LABS, shared similar enthusiasm, highlighting the company’s dedication to reducing environmental impact not only within manufacturing but also across the entire supply chain.
Together, the companies are working to transform waste into a valuable resource, marking a new era of sustainable innovation in the cosmetics industry.
