In honour of World Environment Day on 5th June, the greetings card company thortful has unveiled its significant strides in sustainability. By highlighting their eco-friendly initiatives, thortful aims to inspire other businesses to adopt greener practices.

A Greener Footprint

Thortful’s sustainability efforts have led to the prevention of 22.3 tons of carbon from entering the atmosphere. This remarkable achievement is part of their broader strategy to reduce their environmental impact.

Through their partnership with Ecologi, thortful has funded projects that have resulted in the removal of 210 tons of carbon from the atmosphere. To put this into perspective, that’s equivalent to the emissions from 100 economy flights between London and Beijing.

Tree Planting Initiatives

One of the standout aspects of thortful’s sustainability journey is their tree-planting initiative. Collaborating with Ecologi, thortful has helped plant over 1,930 trees across the globe. These trees are now flourishing in diverse locations including Kenya, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Senegal, Ecuador, Morocco, and Peru. These efforts contribute significantly to land restoration and the fight against desertification and drought.

Eco-friendly Operations

Thortful’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond carbon reduction and tree planting. All their cards are printed using vegan inks and are 100% recyclable. They have also chosen to work with Royal Mail and DPD, the UK’s top two eco-friendliest couriers, to minimise their carbon footprint further.

In a bid to reduce emissions associated with transportation, thortful prints all their cards on the UK mainland, avoiding the need to fly cards into the UK from overseas printing locations. This decision underscores their dedication to environmentally responsible business practices.

World Environment Day 2024

The theme for World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration with the slogan: “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” Thortful’s initiatives are perfectly aligned with this theme, showcasing their commitment to restoring natural landscapes and promoting sustainable living.

Celebrating World Environment Day

Thortful encourages everyone to join in celebrating World Environment Day by taking simple yet impactful actions:

  1. Pick Up Trash: Visit your local park or beauty spot and pick up litter while enjoying the outdoors. This helps keep the environment clean and beautiful.
  2. Go Plant-Based: Try adopting a plant-based diet for the day or commit to Meatless Mondays. Research suggests that switching to a vegan-friendly diet can reduce your carbon footprint from food by up to 73%.
  3. Plant a Tree: Deforestation is a significant threat to our climate. Planting trees in your garden or donating to organisations like the World Land Trust can make a tangible difference.
  4. Check Your Carbon Footprint: Understanding your carbon footprint and finding ways to reduce it can lead to more sustainable living. Small changes can collectively have a big impact.

Thortful’s sustainability journey serves as a beacon for businesses aiming to operate more responsibly. Their proactive measures in reducing carbon emissions and supporting reforestation are commendable steps towards a greener future. As we celebrate World Environment Day, thortful’s initiatives remind us that every effort counts in the fight against climate change.
