POGS, a specialist in child-friendly audio solutions, has launched a new range of eco-friendly headphones for children, developed using sustainable materials from INEOS Styrolution. The headphones, which are now available in stores, are part of POGS’ commitment to combining safety and environmental responsibility.

INEOS Styrolution, a global leader in styrenics, announced the collaboration, revealing that POGS has selected the ECO version of Novodur® P2H-AT, a high-performance recycled material, for its latest line of headphones. The material is designed to meet the growing demand for environmentally responsible consumer products, particularly for young users.

Safe and Durable Headphones for Young Ears

POGS has built a reputation for producing headphones that prioritise the safety and comfort of young listeners. Their products feature technology that limits sound output to a safe range between 70 and 85 decibels, designed to protect the sensitive ears of children. Alongside safety, durability is a key focus for the company, with the new headphones made to withstand the rigours of daily use while offering high-quality audio experiences.

Adam de Beer, Marketing Lead at POGS, explained the company’s motivation behind this new product range: “We are dedicated to delivering products that ensure the safest audio experience for young listeners while minimising environmental impact throughout our manufacturing processes. Our goal is to consistently utilise the highest quality, safest, and most sustainable materials in our products.”

The new headsets, which include models named Gecko 2, Elephant 2, and Turtle, are designed to inspire responsible audio enjoyment for the next generation. POGS aims to reduce their environmental footprint by incorporating recycled materials in their production process.

Sustainable Material Innovation

The key innovation behind POGS’ new headphones lies in the use of Novodur P2H-AT, a styrenic plastic known for its durability, heat resistance, and aesthetic finish. This material, supplied by INEOS Styrolution, is part of the company’s ECO range, which includes sustainable options made from post-consumer recycled ABS. These versions contain 30%, 50%, or 70% recycled content, significantly reducing their carbon footprint compared to traditionally manufactured materials.

Dr Christian Ruthard, Product Manager ECO EMEA at INEOS Styrolution, commented on the collaboration: “We are particularly pleased to offer POGS an option that not only ensures a high-class surface appearance, but also allows for a variety of colours in the final product. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to sustainable innovation.”

According to INEOS Styrolution, the use of Novodur ECO in POGS’ products helps to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The material is sourced from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), a waste stream that includes end-of-life household appliances, televisions, and computers. By incorporating these recycled materials, POGS’ products align with the increasing consumer demand for environmentally responsible choices.

Reducing Environmental Impact

Novodur ECO’s environmental benefits are notable. The 30%, 50%, and 70% recycled content versions of the material reduce CO2 emissions by 21%, 38%, and 57% respectively. This move by POGS is part of a broader trend within the consumer electronics sector to address environmental concerns by sourcing sustainable materials and reducing waste.

With this new range of headphones, POGS hopes to encourage more responsible consumption patterns while maintaining the high standards of safety and performance for which they are known. “We are pleased that this partnership has resulted in a plastic solution that aligns with our commitment to safety, durability, and sustainability,” de Beer concluded.
