In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, JA Solar’s Yangzhou manufacturing base has become the first zero carbon factory in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province. The factory, located in Jingshan Park, was awarded the prestigious Zero Carbon Factory Verification Certificate (Type I, Star 4) on August 28 by TÜV SÜD, a globally recognised testing and certification body. The certification is based on standards set by the China Energy Conservation Association (T/CECA-G 0171-2022).
This achievement underscores the factory’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint and marks a major milestone for JA Solar in its push towards green manufacturing. The TÜV SÜD certification adds credibility to the company’s efforts, as the rigorous process evaluates multiple environmental factors.
The Yangzhou base received high scores across various criteria, including basic compliance and management requirements, energy and carbon emissions management systems, resource use, and greenhouse gas reduction measures. The assessment also covered carbon offset programmes, demonstrating the factory’s commitment to fully integrated green initiatives.
JA Solar, one of the leading companies in the renewable energy sector, is embracing a comprehensive approach to climate change and sustainable development. The company has incorporated green practices across four key areas: governance, strategy, risk management, and performance metrics. As part of its long-term sustainability goals, JA Solar is targeting a 42% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 2023 levels by 2030. The firm has also set a net-zero emissions target for 2050.
Aiqing Yang, Executive President at JA Solar, expressed pride in the factory’s achievements: “Achieving the Zero Carbon Factory Verification is a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability. This recognition underscores our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and pioneering green innovation.”
JA Solar’s ambition goes beyond simply complying with industry standards. The company is striving to produce fully green products across their entire life cycle by 2030, reflecting its strong commitment to environmental responsibility. The Yangzhou factory’s certification comes as part of this broader vision, highlighting how the firm is integrating sustainability into all aspects of its operations.
TÜV SÜD, the organisation responsible for the certification, is internationally known for its stringent assessment processes, which test environmental credentials across various sectors. The awarding of the Zero Carbon Factory certificate to JA Solar’s Yangzhou base reflects the company’s leading position in renewable energy and its role as a green innovator in China’s growing solar energy industry.
This achievement not only boosts JA Solar’s credibility in the marketplace but also sets a new benchmark for the industry. With climate change mitigation increasingly becoming a global priority, JA Solar’s move to reduce its carbon footprint aligns with the international trend towards sustainability.
As JA Solar continues to expand its operations globally, the company remains committed to advancing the transition towards a carbon-neutral future, contributing to global efforts in combating climate change.
