Cornish Lithium, a mineral exploration company based in the UK, has announced a partnership with Aztek, a leading Managed Service Provider, to implement essential IT infrastructure at its new lithium extraction demonstration plant in Cornwall. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the development of sustainable lithium production, which is crucial for the UK’s shift towards clean energy.

The partnership between Cornish Lithium and Aztek dates back to 2016, coinciding with the onset of Cornish Lithium’s operations. Over the years, Aztek has been instrumental in building the IT foundation necessary for the company’s expansion, evolving from a rudimentary setup to a sophisticated infrastructure capable of supporting the intricate processes involved in lithium extraction. The latest collaboration centres on the Trelavour Project, situated near St Austell, where Cornish Lithium is advancing lithium extraction technologies from hard rock sources.

Opened earlier this month, the demonstration plant is pivotal in promoting lithium production within the UK, addressing the burgeoning demand for electric vehicle batteries and other clean energy technologies. By investing in this facility, Cornish Lithium aims to establish a secure domestic supply of lithium, thus reducing the UK’s dependence on imports and aiding in the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

Aztek’s role in the project includes the installation of secure wireless internet, advanced IT systems, dedicated servers, and CCTV, all designed to ensure the demonstration plant operates efficiently and securely. With their Managed IT Support and Cyber Security services, Aztek provides essential protection in today’s increasingly digital landscape, where securing operations against cyber threats is vital for the success of green energy initiatives.

Anthony Hudson, Managing Director of Aztek, expressed pride in the partnership: “We’re proud to have been part of Cornish Lithium’s journey from the very beginning. Our goal has always been to provide a secure and scalable IT infrastructure that not only supports their immediate needs but also their long-term vision. The work we’ve done at the Trelavour Project is designed to ensure that Cornish Lithium has the robust digital foundation needed to advance their green energy goals.”

Jeremy Wrathall, Chairman of Cornish Lithium, also praised Aztek’s contribution: “Aztek’s expertise in IT infrastructure has been instrumental in helping us reach this critical point. Their support allows us to focus on developing sustainable lithium extraction technologies, confident in the knowledge that our digital infrastructure is in safe hands.”

The opening of the new plant signifies a substantial advancement for Cornish Lithium and the UK’s clean energy sector. As the nation strives to lower carbon emissions and facilitate the transition to electric vehicles, this initiative is expected to play a key role in the future of sustainable energy production. With strategic partnerships and cutting-edge technology, Cornish Lithium is well-positioned to contribute to the UK’s green energy ambitions.
