Chinese renewable energy company Sungrow Hydrogen has signed an agreement to supply hydrogen production equipment for ACME Group’s 320MW green ammonia project in Oman. The deal marks the start of a strategic partnership between the two firms in the Middle East.
Under the agreement, Sungrow Hydrogen will provide multiple units of its advanced 1000Nm³/h ALK hydrogen production equipment. The equipment will be delivered by 2025, with the project expected to begin operations in 2026. Once operational, the facility is set to produce 300 tonnes of green ammonia daily, bolstering Oman’s position in the global green hydrogen market.
Supporting Oman’s Green Energy Vision
The green ammonia project is central to ACME Group’s strategy to advance sustainable energy solutions in the Middle East. By leveraging hydrogen produced through water electrolysis, the project aims to deliver environmentally friendly ammonia, a key component in reducing industrial carbon emissions.
The collaboration underscores Oman’s ambitions to become a leader in the green hydrogen industry. Analysts believe the project could significantly strengthen the country’s role in the global renewable energy landscape.
Sungrow Hydrogen Expands Global Presence
Sungrow Hydrogen has been making strides in the green hydrogen sector, underpinned by technological advancements and increased manufacturing capacity. In 2024, its electrolyser products achieved certifications from CE and TÜV, while its 20MW Water Electrolysis Hydrogen Production Empirical Platform received accreditation from China’s National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS).
The company’s second manufacturing facility, featuring China’s first automated assembly line for ALK electrolysers, recently began operations. The facility is expected to boost production efficiency by 60%, increasing Sungrow Hydrogen’s annual production capacity to 3GW.
These developments reflect Sungrow Hydrogen’s growing competitiveness in the global market, enabling it to support large-scale hydrogen projects worldwide.
A Growing Commitment to Green Hydrogen
Sungrow Hydrogen is actively involved in major integrated projects focusing on green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol production across the globe. The company is collaborating with international partners to drive innovation in the green hydrogen sector and contribute to the transition towards clean energy.
A spokesperson for Sungrow Hydrogen said: “This agreement with ACME Group is a milestone in our commitment to advancing green hydrogen technology. We are proud to support Oman’s vision of becoming a global hub for sustainable energy.”
The 320MW project is seen as a step towards wider adoption of green ammonia as a clean energy solution, with potential applications ranging from fertiliser production to fuel for shipping and heavy industry.
As the global green hydrogen industry continues to expand, Sungrow Hydrogen’s partnership with ACME is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
